Our work in this area focuses on therelationship between trade, sustainable development and the fourth Industrial Revolution (4iR) with particular reference to the activities of the African Continental, Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the WTO and regional bodies such as ECOWAS. We examine the opportunities for and
challenges to progressive trade – that is one that puts people first; contributes to broader economic, social and
environmental objectives; is compatible with climate change commitments; benefits the middle class and all who aspire to join it; and addresses inequalities at all levels.
